Find out how a rhinoplasty may be able to finally give you the nose that you’ve always wanted.
Do you feel like your nose is the one thing that’s out of place? Do you dislike the shape, curve, or overall appearance of your nose? Does it make you feel less than confident about your appearance? If so, then it’s might be time to talk to our Winston-Salem, NC, facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Jordan Wallin and Dr. Brian Downs, about whether rhinoplasty is right for you.
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also referred to as a “nose job”, is a surgical procedure that allows our Winston-Salem, NC, cosmetic surgeons to mold and reshape the nose to achieve the look that you want. Given that rhinoplasties are one of the most common cosmetic surgeries in the US, our surgeons understand that nose reshaping isn’t just a science but an art, as well. We take great pride in providing you with the amazing results you’re looking for through cosmetic surgery.
What should I expect from the surgery?
Rhinoplasty is a simple outpatient procedure that reshapes and enhances the appearance of your nose, and it is performed right here in our office. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, which means that you will be asleep during the treatment. As we mentioned above, getting the exact results you want will take time, as the procedure requires proper and careful attention to detail.
The procedure can take anywhere from one hour to several hours, depending on the extent of the work that we’ll need to perform. Of course, since you’re under the effects of anesthesia, you will need to take some time in our office to recover and allow us to monitor you before we send you home.
Is rhinoplasty right for you?
An ideal candidate for rhinoplasty will be someone who is in good health. We also want to work with patients who are realistic about their goals and expectations about what cosmetic surgery can offer. Remember, plastic surgery can create amazing results but nothing is perfect. To make sure you get the results you’re looking for it’s a good idea to bring in photos of your ideal nose so we can have a visual.
Just because a nose job is often done for cosmetic purposes doesn’t mean that some patients’ nasal health couldn’t also actually benefit from this procedure. In fact, rhinoplasty can also be used to correct a deviated septum or other nasal deformities or conditions that affect your breathing.

Rhinoplasty, also called a “nose job” is a very common surgical procedure to correct structural issues and to provide a more cosmetically appealing shape for your nose. There are many medical reasons why you should consider rhinoplasty. Some of the more common medical problems which lead to rhinoplasty include:
- A narrow, twisted nose
- Small, weak nostrils
- Septal deviation
- Narrow nasal passages
Any of these issues can lead to breathing problems, which can affect your overall health. Medical issues are just one of the reasons why people choose rhinoplasty. Aesthetics is another common reason for rhinoplasty. If you don’t like the look of your nose, you can cosmetically improve the look of your nose by:
- Changing the size of your nose
- Changing the angle of your nose
- Straightening the bridge of your nose
- Recontouring the tip of your nose
- Narrowing your nostrils
The rhinoplasty procedure is usually completed in an operating room using general anesthesia or IV sedation. Typically the procedure takes between 1 and 2 hours. During the procedure, your facial plastic surgeon will reshape the bone or cartilage or may add cartilage or bone to change the shape of your nose.
After the procedure, you may experience slight swelling and bruising near your eyes and over your nose. Your facial plastic surgeons may have you wear an internal or external nasal splint to cushion the surgical area.

Poorly Set Nose
Maybe you broke your nose while in the heat of a game or it was an accident that happened in childhood. Whatever the case, many people who have broken noses don’t actually get it set or don’t have it set properly. As the nose heals it can heal crooked or develop a noticeable bump. Fortunately, getting rhinoplasty in Clemmons, NC can surgically fix this problem by setting and then splinting the nose to guarantee that your nose heals properly this time.
Even if your nose hasn’t incurred injury, sometimes genetics doesn’t always get it right and you’re left with a nose that’s too wide, too big or simply doesn’t fit the rest of your face proportionately. Luckily, there is something you can do about it. Rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that addresses issues with appearance so that we can give you the ideal nose shape you deserve.
Have you been diagnosed with a deviated septum, in which the wall of tissue between your nostrils is uneven? This may not seem like a big deal, but it can cause some pretty unpleasant breathing and sinus-related issues.
