Thinking about BOTOX®? BOTOX® is one the most popular physician-administered cosmetic procedure in the United States. BOTOX® isbotox a minimally invasive anti-aging treatment that can make you look years younger. Dr. Jordan Wallin and Dr. Brian Downs at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery in Clemmons and Winston-Salem, NC, offer BOTOX® wrinkle treatments to their patients. Here's everything you've ever wanted to know about BOTOX®.

What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a medicine that is injected into muscles to improve the appearance of crow’s feet, wrinkles, facial creases, and lines on the forehead, around the mouth, and between the eyebrows. BOTOX® is a quick, 10-minute procedure that you can actually do over your lunch hour. Your doctor will discuss your treatment goals and create the right BOTOX® treatment plan for you.

How Does BOTOX® Work?
Using a very fine needle, your Clemmons and Winston-Salem facial plastic surgeon will inject the Botox directly into the targeted facial muscles. Botox injections work by paralyzing certain muscles or by blocking certain nerves. As a result, the muscles relax, significantly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Some patients have reported that getting injected with BOTOX feels like a pinch but your doctors use a special instrument to help lessen any discomfort.

How fast will I see results?
Don’t worry, you’ll be out the door and on your way to feeling younger and radiating confidence in no time. BOTOX® starts to work within 48 hours. Recent studies showed that a majority of people saw significant improvement at seven days. The effects last about three to four months, depending on what you are treating. With BOTOX®, you can get real, dramatic results and still look like yourself.

Is it a safe procedure?
BOTOX® is considered safe and effective for reduction of facial wrinkles. For safest results assure your physician is board certified. BOTOX® treatment requires minimal downtime and recovery. You will be able to resume your normal activities after you leave your doctor's office.

Millions of people around the world have made BOTOX® treatments a part of what they do. Perhaps it's time you joined them? They say that with age comes wisdom; unfortunately, it also comes with some unpleasant wrinkles. While we certainly don’t mind the botoxwisdom part it’s the lined and weathered appearance that we do mind. Fortunately, our Winston-Salem and Clemmons, NC, facial plastic surgeons Dr. Jordan L. Wallin and Dr. Brian W. Downs at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery have a simple, non-surgical way to refresh your appearance. They can determine if you are a good candidate for Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily reduces the appearances of fine line and wrinkles in adults. This cosmetic procedure uses small injections delivered into the surface of the skin to temporarily paralyze muscles in the face that cause dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that appear when you make facial expressions). Botox is able to treat wrinkles such as crow’s feet, laugh lines and lines around the forehead and brows. Wrinkles caused by sun damage will not respond to Botox treatment.

How is Botox different from dermal fillers?

Most people hear the word “Botox” and assume it’s just another dermal filler. While both require small injections in the skin, dermal fillers work to increase collagen production and improve skin’s firmness and elasticity while also reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Botox, on the other hand, is designed to stop muscle contractions to smooth out wrinkles that are caused by smiling, laughing or frowning.

How is Botox administered?

Getting Botox in Winston-Salem and Clemmons, NC, is surprisingly fast, easy and relatively painless. It only takes a couple minutes to administer the series of small injections. Of course, patients who may be a bit nervous or squeamish may choose to have a topical numbing gel placed over the skin prior to getting these injections.

How long will my results last?

Results will begin to take effect within a few days after your treat (results will reach full effect within seven days) and will stay for about 3-4 months. If you are happy with your results and want to keep your youthful appearance longer, then all you have to do is come in for maintenance treatments. It’s that simple.

Whether you have questions about Botox or you are ready to find out if you are an ideal candidate for treatment, turn to Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem and Clemmons, NC, for all of your cosmetic needs. We would be happy to help you figure out what cosmetic service will best match your goals.

Patient:

Why does BOTOX® go away?

Diane

Doc:

Most people love how BOTOX ® works to decrease or eliminate lines on their faces and wish it would last longer. Unfortunately, BOTOX® is a temporary medicine used to paralyze muscles that lasts 3-4 months for most people. It works by being taken up into the end of nerves and blocking special “docking” proteins. By blocking these docking proteins, the neuro-transmitter acetylcholine isn’t able to be released to stimulate the surrounding muscle. Over time, nerve terminals begin a process called sprouting which allows nerve endings to once again stimulate the surrounding muscle. It is also thought that the original nerve ending becomes functional once again. As result, you will begin to see lines on your face as result of functional muscles.

Discover the many benefits that Botox can offer your appearance.
Whether you are looking to refresh your appearance before the New Year or you’re just sick and tired of dealing with facial wrinkles and lines there has never been a better time to talk to your Clemmons plastic surgeons Dr. Jordan L. Wallin and Dr. Brian W. Downs about BotoxBotox treatment.

What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is an FDA-approved treatment to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe facial lines in adults. Botox contains a small amount of botulinum toxin, which is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. When injected into the muscles of the face botulinum toxin stops the nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract. Since they can’t contract this smooths out certain wrinkles and lines in three to seven days.

What can Botox treat?
Botox is approved to treat frown lines and crow’s feet, but can also smooth out lines around the lips, eyes, nose and forehead.

How long will it take to get Botox treatment?
This process is extremely quick and easy. Botox is performed right here in our Clemmons facial plastic surgery office and it only takes a couple of minutes to inject these small needles into the skin.

Does getting Botox hurt?
While patients may feel a small pinch when the needles are injected this is usually very minor. Your facial plastic surgeon in Clemmons may use a few different methods to help ease any minor discomfort you might experience when the Botox is administered.

Are there any side effects to treatment?
Side effects for Botox are extremely rare. While redness, swelling, itching and soreness at and around the injection sites are common after treatment, very few patients experienced eyelid or brow dropping.
Other side effects include blurred vision, double vision, neck pain, headaches, dry eyes and allergic reactions. If you have any concerns about potential side effects talk to us ahead of time to make sure that Botox is the right cosmetic treatment for you.
