Find out how corrective eyelid surgery works and how it can improve the shape of your eyelids.

Blepharoplasty might sound like a mouth full but it’s just a medical term for eyelid surgery. This cosmetic procedure is used for improving blepharoplastythe shape of your eyelids. Of course, we understand that you may have questions regarding this procedure and whether it’s right for you. From the office of our Winston-Salem, NC, facial plastic surgeons Dr. Jordan Wallin and Dr. Brian Downs, here are some questions that are heard most often regarding this aesthetic treatment.

Why is blepharoplasty performed?

If our Winston-Salem, NC, facial cosmetic surgeons have performed an evaluation and determined that you have eyelid ptosis, in which the eyelids hang or droop then this corrective eyelid surgery may be the ideal treatment option for you. During blepharoplasty, our surgeons will remove excess tissue from the eyelids.

If eyelashes are dropping, then anchor blepharoplasty is an upper eyelid surgery that can help correct this type of eyelid ptosis.

What should I expect from treatment?

During the procedure, you will be under conscious sedation, which means that you may not remember any part of the procedure but you can still cooperate during surgery. This is important because the eyelids will need to be able to open and close during surgery, otherwise this can affect the results of this cosmetic surgery. This is why general anesthesia is not used for this simple procedure.

The procedure usually takes about one hour. During this procedure, a small incision is made at the crease near the upper eyelid. From there, some skin, muscle and fat are removed before the area is stitched up.

If you are getting blepharoplasty of the lower eyelid, then the incision will be made under the eyelashes so it’s less visible. From there, fat is removed and the skin and muscles are tightened before stitching the area.

Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

If you are dealing with unilateral or bilateral drooping or sagging eyelids that affect your appearance or obstruct your vision then blepharoplasty could be the ideal treatment option for you.

Do you have questions about getting blepharoplasty? Do you want to find out whether or not this is the right cosmetic option for improving your appearance? If so, the facial plastic surgeons Dr. Jordan Wallin or Dr. Brian Downs at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery in Winston-Salem, NC, are ready to help.

A facelift is a relatively common cosmetic procedure that can be life-changing and inspire you in a number of ways. It is one of the firstfacelift treatments that come to mind when a patient is contemplating facial plastic surgery. The team at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery in Clemmons and Winston-Salem, NC, Dr. Jordan L. Wallin and Dr. Brian W. Downs can consult with you about facelifts and neck lifts, giving you new hope about how you can look despite the natural course of aging and stress.

Facelifts and Neck Lifts
The facial plastic surgeon makes incisions near the hairline and around the ears, removes excess skin, and tightens the skin before sealing it with sutures. It smooths out the skin, gets rid of unwanted fatty deposits, and helps remove wrinkles. A neck lift is a similar procedure except the incision is made under the chin. Again, excess skin and fat are suctioned out. You may qualify for an alternative procedure that requires a smaller opening and the use of an endoscope.

When to Consider These Procedures
If you are feeling (and seeing) the effects of aging and have tried other non-invasive procedures for restoring your skin, a facelift or neck lift may be the next step. Your skin must be in good condition with sufficient collagen and elasticity. You must also be cleared to go under anesthesia by your Winston-Salem and Clemmons facial plastic surgeon.

What to Expect
The first and possibly most important step in getting a facelift or neck lift is going to your doctor for a consultation. Because this procedure requires anesthesia, it is important to get a full picture of your medical history, including medications, previous procedures, and conditions. The procedure takes a few hours, and your first healing milestone will be at about three weeks. You’ll see the full benefits after about six months. Be sure to schedule a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to review your progress.

If you’ve been unsatisfied with your facial appearance, you can see an improvement with a facelift or neck lift. Contact Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery at (336) 716-4000 in Clemmons and Winston-Salem, NC, to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jordan Wallin or Dr. Brian Downs.

They say that the eyes are the gateway to the soul and your window to the world. They also play a significant role in the way your face appears to the world. The facial plastic surgeons Dr. Jordan Wallin and Dr. Brian Downs at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery in Winston-Salem, NC offer a procedure called blepharoplasty, which improves the way your eyes look. Find out more about blepharoplasty and how it can help restore youth and vitality to your facial features.

What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is better known as eyelid surgery or an eyelift. It fixes eyelids that droop or sag at the edges, puffy eyelids, and problems with excess skin around the eyes. It is a surgery that can usually be done under local anesthesia in your facial plastic surgeon's office—your surgeon will make just a few incisions to remove excess fat or skin, and add a few stitches to begin the healing process. This procedure can also be performed along with other facial surgeries, like a face or brow lift.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty
Sometimes sagging skin, lines, or wrinkles around the eyes could be the cause of what is making your face look older. Blepharoplasty is a relatively simple procedure that can make significant changes in the way you look. The procedure is minimally invasive and probably won't require you to take too much time off from work. The healing process is relatively quick and the results are long-lasting.

What to Expect at Your Consultation
Your Winson-Salem, NC facial plastic surgeon will need to do a full review of your medical history before performing any plastic surgery. You’ll talk about your goals, and decide whether you want to just do blepharoplasty or if you would like to include other facial procedures. Your facial plastic surgeon will let you know if you need upper or lower eyelid surgery (or both) to achieve your desired appearance.

Thinking about BOTOX®? BOTOX® is one the most popular physician-administered cosmetic procedure in the United States. BOTOX® isbotox a minimally invasive anti-aging treatment that can make you look years younger. Dr. Jordan Wallin and Dr. Brian Downs at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery in Clemmons and Winston-Salem, NC, offer BOTOX® wrinkle treatments to their patients. Here's everything you've ever wanted to know about BOTOX®.

What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a medicine that is injected into muscles to improve the appearance of crow’s feet, wrinkles, facial creases, and lines on the forehead, around the mouth, and between the eyebrows. BOTOX® is a quick, 10-minute procedure that you can actually do over your lunch hour. Your doctor will discuss your treatment goals and create the right BOTOX® treatment plan for you.

How Does BOTOX® Work?
Using a very fine needle, your Clemmons and Winston-Salem facial plastic surgeon will inject the Botox directly into the targeted facial muscles. Botox injections work by paralyzing certain muscles or by blocking certain nerves. As a result, the muscles relax, significantly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Some patients have reported that getting injected with BOTOX feels like a pinch but your doctors use a special instrument to help lessen any discomfort.

How fast will I see results?
Don’t worry, you’ll be out the door and on your way to feeling younger and radiating confidence in no time. BOTOX® starts to work within 48 hours. Recent studies showed that a majority of people saw significant improvement at seven days. The effects last about three to four months, depending on what you are treating. With BOTOX®, you can get real, dramatic results and still look like yourself.

Is it a safe procedure?
BOTOX® is considered safe and effective for reduction of facial wrinkles. For safest results assure your physician is board certified. BOTOX® treatment requires minimal downtime and recovery. You will be able to resume your normal activities after you leave your doctor's office.

What your facial plastic surgeons in Winston-Salem and Clemmons, NC want you to knowfacelift

As you get older, you may be noticing some changes in the contours of your face. Maybe your jawline isn’t as firm as it once was. Maybe your forehead is beginning to sag, making you look like you are frowning most of the time. No matter which signs of aging bother you, there is a procedure that can help. You need to discover the benefits of a facelift!

Your facial plastic surgeons at Wake Forest Baptist Health Facial Plastic Surgery Dr. Jordan L. Wallin and Dr. Brian W. Downs want to share the facts about how a facelift can help you. They have two convenient office locations in Wake Forest, and Clemmons, North Carolina to serve your needs.

A facelift can help you look much younger because the procedure can:

  • Eliminate lines and wrinkles
  • Firm up sagging skin around your face

The facelift is often combined with other cosmetic procedures like these:

  • A brow lift, to firm the forehead area and raise the eyebrows, giving you a younger, less frowning look
  • Eyelid surgery, to remove fatty deposits around the eyes and open up droopy eyelids due to aging or medical conditions like ptosis
  • Neck lift, to eliminate sagging skin and a droopy neckline

Your facial plastic surgeons in Wake Forest perform the facelift procedure using local anesthetic and sedation. A facelift involves removing excess skin from around your ears, and up to your scalp. Liposuction is often used at the same time to remove excess fat under your chin and neck. Your skin is lifted and tightened and then incisions are closed with sutures.

The procedure takes between three and four hours and is performed on an outpatient basis. You should plan on taking at least two weeks off after a facelift and avoid bending or lifting heavy objects for two to three weeks. You will notice the greatest benefit six months after surgery.

If you want to look younger, you should consider a facelift. The results are dramatic and you will look fantastic!
